| History of Coalition for Sustainable Nutrition Security in India |

| The Coalition for Sustainable Nutrition Security in India is a high level group of policy, programme and political leaders, such as Government Ministers and senior representatives from the Planning Commission, media, NGOs, national and international development partners and the private sector. It is the outcome of the National Nutrition Conclave organised at MSSRF, Chennai from 12 - 14 Aug 2007. The Book of Proceedings of the Conclave was released by the Minister of Women and Child Development, Government of India, in an event marking the International Day of Peace and Mahatma Gandhi's birthday on October 3, 2007 in Delhi. At this event, Professor M S Swaminathan announced that he would lead a national Coalition for Sustainable Nutrition Security in India. The Vistaar Project supported by the USAID is the Secretariat for the Coalition. In the first meeting held on 6th November 2007, the Coalition adopted the Terms of Reference and agreed to form four Task Forces to take the recommendations from the Conclave and the Chennai Declaration forward. |

| The Coalition, with the support of the Secretariat, formed two Task Forces encompassing a wide range of national and international experts to deliberate on (i) Overcoming the Curse of Malnutrition in India and (ii) Essential Interventions for Reducing Malnutrition in Infant and Young Children in India. These groups held a number of meetings and produced their recommendations. These recommendations, along with a"Five Point Charter for Overcoming the Curse of Malnutrition: A Leadership Agenda for Action" from Professor M S Swaminathan, were considered and adopted by the Coalition in its second meeting held on September 19, 2008. |
